What should you look for in your   child's riding lesson

and

horse camp facility?

Safety

At YRHA, we stress safety above all else. We stress to our students the importance of safe clothing around horses and helmets when mounted. The instructors, trainers, and counselors here also follow this very important rule setting a good example to all.  We use high quality equipment that is kept in good working condition.  You will find safety stirrups on all of our young rider saddles and we even have a strap fitted on the saddle for new riders to hold on to while they gain balance and confidence in their riding ability.

Size matters

When it comes to learning how to ride, size is an important issue.

Would you ride on a bike that is 2 times too big or small for you?....Neither would we!  We use appropriately sized horses for students ages 5-17.  Riding a horse that is too small or big for you can make it very difficult to learn how to ride, not to mention scary.

I know you would not send your child into an ice skating rink with skates on that are too big?....Neither would we!  That is why we have saddles to fit our different sized riders.  Sliding around in a saddle that is too big for you can be very intimidating and dangerous for a new rider.

Would you drive on a highway before you can navigate a back road?...Well, neither would we!  YRHA has different sized riding rings to accommodate different level riders.  Our students ride in arenas that they are able to maintain control in.  This is yet another important ingredient to our success in gaining confident, efficient riders.

Quality

Quality Instructors~

YRHA's instructors and trainers are all long time horse owners and riders.  4-H and Pony Club have both served big parts in our lives and we take pride in using many of their standards of excellence as part of our everyday program.   We know what it takes to learn and enjoy horseback riding as a hobby and a sport. We take the time to know our students and work with everyone's individual needs.  Our students can feel comfortable that there are no wrong questions to ask us and we really are here to help and teach.

Quality Horses~

YRHA uses quality Registered Miniature Horses, Welsh ponies, and Haflingers in our program. We have been around many breeds of horses, and find that the breeds of horses we use are smart, athletic, friendly, and above all- love kids.  They love the attention!  We keep our horses well schooled and worked with on a regular basis. Our horses vary in their levels of difficulty to keep beginners and advanced riders safe, but also challenged.  Many of our beginner horses are voice command trained.  Most of our horses are trained in jumping and some dressage.
All of the horses we decide on for our program are show quality and in good condition.  We take very good care of them to ensure they can perform their best in every lesson they are scheduled for. We own enough lesson horses to make sure our animals are never overworked. Knowing we can depend on our horses makes teaching on them a gratifying experience.

Quality Program~

We know what some other facilities offer to their students. That is why we designed our program the way it is. We have designed goals for all level riders at YRHA. They learn in steps, never being pushed further than their capabilities.  We keep classes small (2-5 riders in lessons, 5-10 campers at a time) so that your child gets the attention they deserve. Our students learn how to ride, and they also learn about horses.  Our students are very informed about riding, horse equipment, horse behavior, and even the care horses need.

Fun!

Horses and riding are supposed to be fun! We know how to let our students have a good time and still learn. Our students have an opportunity to grow as a horse enthusiast and as a person with hands on horse experience, information, and games. Keeping the classes small make the kids here feel like they are in their own saddle club group, making memories and friends that will last a lifetime.
